Does it rain in Spain?

For many people Spain is some kind of paradise where the sun never sets and the temperatures are always high. This vision of Spain is quite understandable especially if you happen to be living in a rainy, cold country with very few sunny days. Besides, if you are visiting the southern part of Spain, especially Extremadura and Andalucía, the weather will be indeed hot and sunny with little precipitation. However, if you leave the south you will see that not everything that shines is made out of gold.

The most rainy region in Spain

The Spanish weather can be ruthless when it comes to the rain and the cold. The inhabitants of Galicia know it better than anyone. The region of Galicia is different from the rest of Spain not only thanks to another language, tasty seafood and celtic heritage but also because of the heavy rains. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the forecast for Spain. See these clouds, storm and rains in the west-northern part? This is Galicia.

Of course a high level of precipitation is not something completely bad. Thanks to the rainwater Galicia is one of the greenest parts of Spain which is worthy to be seen especially in summer.

Other cold and rainy Spanish regions

Even if the celtic region of Galicia is the most famous rainy Spanish zone, high level of precipitation is observed as well in regions like Asturias and Basque Country which are situated in the northern Spain.

And when it comes to the southern part of Spain, so famous for the hot weather, surprisingly the rain is not an unknown phenomenon there. Yes, it rains even in Andalucía and Murcia, otherwise it would be impossible to grow fruits and vegetables, which together with tourism are two principal source in that parts of Spain.

Now it should be clear as water that Spain is not only about the sun. However, with or without sunny days the Spanish landscapes are still breathtaking.
